The sculpture that sculpts the sculptor

Sean O’Driscoll makes a good point on his post: “influencer marketing: an oxymoron?” However I interpret it differently than others that commented on it already; those comments seem to make the point that Sean does not need to be concerned about influencers because they will force the “right model” or simply not play; however the way I read Sean’s post is as a warning and invitation for the companies to approach the opportunities opened by social media (this new customer relationship space) the right way and understand that the only way to succeed at it is y doing it right.

I once read that the art of bonsai was the sculpture that sculpts the sculptor… as the artist changes the tree the tree changes the artist.

In analogy: Social media will be the relationship marketing program that sculpts the company.  Companies that really want to jump into it need to be willing to listen, engage and change. It is not an spectator sport..
